Topic: Right age for kids to give cell phone

My kids had their 1st cell phones this year.

But we have set rules on when it comes to study and cell phone time:
Allowed to use 1-hr during school days, usually after dinner.
No phones should be brought at school. It all stays at home.
No cell phone are allowed during family time like dinner and at bedtime.
Maximize the use on Friday night until whole Saturday.
Sunday, a No-No for this is their study day. But if they have a major exam day, a No-No on Saturday and Sunday.

Re: Right age for kids to give cell phone

I think kids should not be gIven cell phones until they matUre. For what is the need of mobile when they have every other accessory available instead of that. Giving them mobile phone would limit their activities hence less time for physical and mental games. So i suggest that avoid giving them phones as far as possible. This is not good for their health aswell. But take cAre of it in a very sensible and gentle way otherwise they can get stubborn and quarrel which we certainly don't want.

Re: Right age for kids to give cell phone

Kids nowadays are surely gadget savvy as I have a five year old nephew that knows how to operate an iPad. I guess you can give them cellphones when they are mature enough and can use the phone practically, like for calling and texting whenever there's a need to. I remember I had my first cellphone when I was 9 years old because my parents told me to just use it for emergency purposes.

I'm not sure when I'll give my kid a cellphone. You have to worry about them being bullied on social media, but I like the fact that the cellphone can be used if they need to get hold of you at any time.

Re: Right age for kids to give cell phone

For me, I cannot tolerate my children using their mobile phone at very young age. But it's a case to case basis. Specially if your child started to attend school. You can buy them mobile phone for contact purpose but not for other puspose like so they could have something to show off to their classmates.. No! No!

I would buy my child a basic phone smile The one which can be used for texting and calling. That's the ultimate purpose of cellphone anyway, right?

Re: Right age for kids to give cell phone

It is the easiest way for us parents to keep in touch with our child/children. In case, of emergency they can contact on any at any moment. But it had a rule. There are do's and don'ts. For me, if the child knows how to operate a phone during her /his early age can be better in the form that they need help. for some situation Like they lose their way and don't know how to back home. The Cellphone is helpful depending on how the user used it.
