Topic: My 3 year old is always sick!

I feel like she just gets over one thing, and then she's suddenly sick again. Fevers, colds, runny nose! Is it normal, are kids just sick often? I did start her at school recently, so I know there's plenty of germs around.

Got any tips for keeping them healthy?
How often are your kids sick (just little coughs, colds and flu)

Re: My 3 year old is always sick!

Kids should not be sick always.
We all know that we as mothers, are so conscious when it comes to our children's health.

My kids seldom gets sick but if they do, I felt so uneasy knowing that your child is not doing well.

Have your child seen by a pediatrician, he/she will advise you if you need to take laboratory test for your baby.

At home, you could prepare fruits and vegetables incorporated with their usual food.
Include also vitamin supplements prescribed by your doctor.

Set a reminder/poster (you could also draw: Mr. Germs to remind kids) at home on why we must wash our hands because this prevents spreading of disease or germs around and this prevents kids from getting sick.
1. When you get home from school/work
2. After using the bathroom
3. After you sneeze or cough
4. After playing toys
5. After playing outdoor activities
6. After playing with pets
7. Before and after visiting a friend who is also sick
8. Before eating, serving and preparing foods
9. After touching dirty surfaces or objects
10. After shaking hands with other people

Jo-anne first of all, please don't worry kids are like that. I recommend that you should have her through checkup by a pediatrician. mostly those kids fall sick who have weak immunity or they have high interaction with disease causing microbes. give them healthy food and supplements if suggested by the doctor, limit them going into dirty places and keep them clean always. May your kid feel better soon.

If she's frequently sick, maybe it's best to sought consultation with a pediatrician for better management. It's unlikely for children to get sick every now and then, except of course they've already been diagnosed with underlying illness (i.e. asthma). You would want to reach out a physician for this type of problem because frequent sickness may or may not pose a serious problem.

Re: My 3 year old is always sick!

I think it is normal. I have two children and both were often sick. 1 week in the kindergarten two weeks at home, sick. It went like this, especially during winter time. With my first child, I was worried like you are, but as he got six years old he wasn´t sick anymore. His immune system is strong now. I did nothing special, but I never brought my children back to kindergarten till they weren't 100 percent healthy.  Also, my children do not eat as much fruits and vegetables as they should.  However, they spend lots of time playing outside.  By the time children got 6 years old their immune system gets stronger and will be less sick.

Re: My 3 year old is always sick!

Yes, younger kids tend to have weak and unstable immune system not until they reached their 7th year. So it's not your fault because moms do their best to take care of your child. Just a tip, since kids have weak immune system you should watch out for possible source of virus and bacteria. Make sure our homes and our environment are always clean, avoid mingling with kids who has colds cough, fever and the likes., and regular intake of vitamins through fruits as well. Hope that helps.
