Topic: Family Dinner(s)

I think sharing the table over dinner helps strengthening the family bond. Why? Because all throughout the day, we are all busy with school, work, and errands that we spend less time with the members during daytime, and I think doing some catch up while having dinner is the best way to bond and appear involved in every family member's affair. for example, what they did that day, where they went, how their day was, etc.

True! And your kids will bring this practice until they grow up. I myself I always make sure that our family is always complete on dinner and lunch time! Even breakfast! Because that is the only chance you can share bond with your family.

Re: Family Dinner(s)

This is very true because in whole  day this is the time when we get to see our family, we sit together, we talk, we discuss, we plan and much more. All of this makes us to spend quality time especially with elders which is beneficial for youngsters learning, incurs good habits in them along with manners and respect of elders..

I agree with you, Khayce and Fatima! Personally, dinner is my favorite meal of the day because I get to see family members that were out the whole day and do some catch-up!

Re: Family Dinner(s)

I agree. We've tried to make sure we have a meal together every night. It's a great opportunity to chat through the events of the day.

We actually eat very early, at about 5:30/6pm. Then it's bath and bed time (and them mommy-quiet time!!).

Re: Family Dinner(s)

As a working mom, you have to juggle to equalize family and work.
It will surely give me much stress if I find it difficult to maintain its balance.
I must ensure that I meet the schedule everyday as much as possible since this is the important day of being together as a family.
Planning is the main factor for this. Plan everything ahead making family the top priority on this.
I need to make sure that I'm totally present during dinner since I do the cooking but sometimes I opt to do take-outs if time is not enough to cook.
For my work, I leave everything in my workplace. No work (no open laptops and entertain phone calls re: work) should be brought at home since it interferes the family bonding time together.
As the saying goes...the family that eats together, stays together.

Re: Family Dinner(s)

Indeed. Work shouldn't be taken at home as sometimes this causes distress among family members. We wouldn't want to discuss work problems over at dinner. So I think just talking about topics that are not work related are a good way to enhance bonding within the family members.

Re: Family Dinner(s)

It can be hard when your husband works late, and the kids should be in bed, but we try to make a plan most nights. I like the idea of asking specific questions at dinner, like 'what was the best thing that happened to you today' or 'tell me something that you learned today' or 'who did you get on really well with today' - so starting discussions that get a real response.
