I love going to the farmyard with my kids. I tried something different the other day: the roller rink! It was fun, but there's a lot of skill involved and we had none, so we struggled a bit. My kids still enjoy going to restaurants where there's a big jungle gym, so that makes an easy play date out.

That sounds like fun! I've never tried that. We enjoy going out to a little farmyard close to where we live. You can feed the animals and pet the rabbits. My kids love animals so it's fun for us. But I'll look up mazes, maybe there's one near us!

My kids don't watch much TV during the week, but on the weekends I just let them watch, especially when I'm busy preparing food or doing work (often working weekends!).

I feel the first birthday party is really more for us than it is for the kid. I went for a beautiful 'fairy tale' theme for my daughter. She wore a red riding hood and the cutest boots. I made an amazing fairy tale cake. I had cinderella's slipper cookies and Snow White apple tart and a bunch of themed food. It was very sweet.

My son plays soccer and he loves karate. It's important not to overwhelm them with too many sports. Try something different every term, so they can experience a range of things. We're going for the chess club next term.

I like to find one big present and then a few smaller fun things. I try not to go overboard. I have family members who buy their kids so much stuff and it just gets lost and broken in the Christmas rush. This year I got my son a really nice programmable robot and a few smaller toys to go with it.

Great tips. Just wish I could remember ever 15 minutes! I always forget. I must try setting an alarm on my phone.

I'm not sure when I'll give my kid a cellphone. You have to worry about them being bullied on social media, but I like the fact that the cellphone can be used if they need to get hold of you at any time.

Yeah, there's something about that purple Dinosaur! Kids love him. Never quite understood it.

My mother-in-law always manages to find the most annoying gifts on the face of the planet. Last year she got my two year old a drum set! Seriously. It’s terrible - firstly, it’s huge so it takes up a lot of room. It’s also cheaply made and plastic. It makes a terrible racket. The only good thing about it was that it fell apart after a month so we could get rid of it!

Anyone have a similar situation?
What other gift ideas should just be avoided?
